Thor or Thunar in Old Saxon is a prominent god in both Norse and Anglo-Saxon mythology, known as the god of thunder, storms, and protection. He is the son of the god Odin and the earth goddess Jord or Fjörgyn in some sources and is one of the most powerful deities in the Norse pantheon. Thor is famously depicted wielding his hammer, Mjölnir, which he uses to protect the gods and humans from Jötnar and other threats.

In Norse myths, Thor is a warrior who defends both the gods' realm, Asgard, and the human world, Midgard. He is associated with strength, fertility, and the protection of order against chaos. Thor’s role as a protector made him one of the most revered gods, and his followers often sought his aid in battle or during storms.

Thor's symbolism in both the Norse and Anglo-Saxon traditions also ties him to the natural forces of thunder and lightning, with his name often invoked in weather-related contexts. His thunderous chariot, drawn by goats, and his fierce battle against the serpent Jörmungandr are key aspects of his mythology.
