The Knights Templar were a medieval Catholic military order founded around 1119 AD during the Crusades. Officially known as the "Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon", they were initially established to protect Christian pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land. Over time the Templars grew in wealth, power and influence becoming one of the most formidable military and financial organizations in medieval Europe.
The Templars were recognized by the Pope and took vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. They were known for their distinctive white mantles adorned with a red cross and their role expanded beyond military duties to include banking and lending, contributing to their immense wealth. The Templars also played a crucial part in the Crusades fighting in key battles and fortifying critical positions in the Holy Land.
