During the Roman Republic, southern Italy was a vibrant melting pot of Greek and Latin cultures. Greek colonies had a profound influence on the region, bringing their art, philosophy and traditions. Meanwhile, the Latin culture from central Italy particularly from Rome, began to spread through political and military expansion. The interaction between these two cultures resulted in a unique blend, where Greek intellectualism and artistic achievements were fused with Roman law, governance and military prowess. This cultural fusion shaped the development of southern Italy, which became a vital part of the Roman world.
